A checklist for touring a salon suite: rent, what's included, access, security, lease terms and marketing.

A tour is your chance to see whether a suite will work for your clients and your business. Bring this list so you leave with clear answers, not just a good feeling.

Rent and lease terms

  1. What is the weekly or monthly rent for this suite? Ask whether different suite sizes have different rates.
  2. How long is the lease? Find out the minimum term and what happens when it ends.
  3. Is there a deposit or move-in fee?
  4. Are there any move-in offers? At NR, new suite leases include 4 weeks free. See the terms on the tour.

What is included

  1. Which utilities are covered? Power, water and WiFi can add up fast if they are billed separately.
  2. Is the suite furnished? Ask exactly what comes with it, such as the chair, mirror and storage.
  3. What shared spaces can I use? Laundry, a break room and a client waiting area all make the day easier.

Access and security

  1. What hours can I work? Check whether access is limited or available around the clock.
  2. Does my suite lock? Your tools and products should be safe when you leave.
  3. How is the building secured, and where do clients park?

Growing your business

  1. Can I decorate and brand my suite?
  2. Is there any marketing support? Some buildings feature their professionals online or on social media.

Before you leave

Take photos, note the suite number and ask for the lease to review at home. Compare it with your current take-home pay so you can decide with real numbers.
